Thomas Werner, born in 1957 in Neu-Ulm, has lived in Frankfurt am Main since 1986. He initially trained as a color lithographer (1973-76). During his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe (1979-84), he was a master student of Prof. Georg Baselitz. He held a guest professorship at the Offenbach Academy of Art and Design (1996-97).

The artist has received numerous prizes and fellowships, including the Paul Strecker Prize (1988), the Bernd Rosenheim Prize (1994) and working scholarships from the Hessian Cultural Foundation (1999) and the Kunstfonds Bonn (2004). At the suggestion of Walter Storms, gallery owner, and Katharina Vossenkuhl, Director of the Götz Collection, members of the Villa Concordia Art Fellowship Board, Thomas Werner was awarded the residency fellowship for 11 months at the Künstlerhaus Bamberg by Bavarian State Minister Markus Blume. He will work in Bamberg from mid-April 2025 to mid-March 2026.
