Born in Leverkusen in 1974, Aslı Tohumcu is an author who has repeatedly campaigned for gender equality and children's rights in her work. In 2007, she completed a one-year residency program in the Netherlands and participated in the ALMA award ceremony in 2016 with the support of the Swedish Embassy. As part of UN Women's Awake Not Sleeping: ‘Reimagining Fairy Tales for a New Generation’, her story “The Storyteller” was selected for the UN Women anthology. The anthology was published in English in 2021.

For five years, she curated and directed the Young Readers and Writers Program at Istanbul Literature House, which provides literary opportunities for young people with limited access to cultural resources. She was awarded the Momentum Follow-Up Fund, administered by British Council Scotland and Creative Scotland, for a project exploring Scottish folklore and its intersections with Turkish storytelling traditions, leading to a new narrative. Aslı Tohumcu continues to run independent creative reading and writing workshops, actively writes for children and adults and lives in Istanbul.

She was awarded the residency fellowship at the Künstlerhaus Bamberg by the Bavarian Minister of State Markus Blume at the suggestion of the Villa Concordia Literature Fellowship Board members Tanja Graf, Head of the Literaturhaus München and Dr. Wolf Iro, Goethe-Institut e.V. Munich. She will work in Bamberg from mid-April to mid-March 2026.
