Annette Pehnt was born in Cologne in 1967. She studied Celtic, German and English literature in Cologne, Freiburg, Galway/Ireland and Berkeley/California and wrote her doctorate on Irish literature. She worked as a freelancer for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Badische Zeitung and ran various writing workshops. She has been a freelance author since 2000. She has been teaching as a research assistant at the Freiburg University of Education since 2007. She has held several poetry lectureships: 2016 at the Technical University of Braunschweig, 2011 at the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg and 2008 at the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden. She is a lecturer at the Bavarian Academy of Writing. She has been Professor of Creative Writing and Cultural Journalism at the University of Hildesheim since 2018. She will live at the Künstlerhaus for 11 months.
