born in 1945 in Stadtoldendorf, Lower Saxony, the daughter of Dr. W. Baumgarten and Rosalia Gottschalk, spent her school years first at the Salem boarding school and then at the Wildermuthgymnasium in Tübingen. In 1966 she married the theater scholar Wilfried Passow and had her son Till in 1968. From 1969 to 1975, Beate Passow studied painting under Prof. Mac Zimmermann at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, graduating in 1975. The artist only began her actual artistic work after separating from her family in 1988. She was awarded the City of Munich's sponsorship prize, as well as further prizes and scholarships in Paris, Budapest, Lahore, Israel, China and Tibet, and took part in international exhibitions.

The artist was awarded the residency fellowship at the Künstlerhaus Bamberg by Bavarian State Minister Markus Blume at the suggestion of Villa Concordia art fellowship board members Walter Storms, gallery owner, and Katharina Vossenkuhl, Director of the Götz Collection. She will work in Bamberg from mid-April to mid-March 2026.
