Andrea Neumann, born 1968 in Freiburg im Breisgau, studied classical piano at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin from 1988 to 1993. Since 1996 she has been playing and developing her own instruments: the inner piano, an aluminum frame stretched on strings, played by means of preparations and reinforced with the help of a mixing console and various pick-ups. She is part of the collective LABOR SONOR, which has curated a concert series since 2000 and festivals in Berlin since 2015. Since 2020 she has been professor of improvisation at the FHNW Musikhochschule in Basel. Her solo works and current formations N.E.W. (Sabine Ercklentz, Ute Wassermann) and contagious (Mieko Suzuki, Sabine Ercklentz) work in a field of tension between electronic music, improvisation, composition, performance and sound art.

Andrea Neumann has been a fellow at our artist residency in the first half of the fellowship 2022/23.
