Gerhard Meier, born in 1957, studied French and Italian. He also learned Turkish on the side. He has lived near Lyon since 1986, where he translates literary works from French and Turkish, including the work of Nobel Prize winner Orhan Pamuk. He was awarded the Paul Celan Prize in 2014. Gerhard Meier was awarded the residency fellowship at the Künstlerhaus Bamberg by the Bavarian Minister of State Markus Blume at the suggestion of the members of the Villa Concordia Literature Fellowship Board Tanja Graf, Director of the Literaturhaus München and Dr. Wolf Iro, Goethe Institut e.V. Munich. He will work in Bamberg from mid-April to mid-March 2026.
