Born in Ankara in 1985, Sinem Altan came to Berlin as a young student at the age of 11 and studied composition at the University of the Arts as well as composition at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music. Her larger works include the orchestral work “Hafriyat-Earthwork” commissioned by Young Euro Classic at Konzerthaus Berlin, for which she was awarded the European Composer Prize in 2015. In 2016, she received a fellowship from the Tarabya Cultural Academy of the German Embassy Residence in Istanbul. Recent commissioned works have been premiered by the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen and Sinfonieorchester Münster, among others. She regularly performs with her ensemble Olivinn at the Volksoper Vienna and Theater Heilbronn. She currently works as musical director of the ATZE Musiktheater Berlin.

Sinem Altan was awarded the residency fellowship at the Künstlerhaus Bamberg by the Bavarian Minister of State Markus Blume at the suggestion of the Villa Concordia Music Fellowship Board members Marcus Rudolf Axt, Director of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Imke List, Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and Prof. Rainer Kotzian, President of the Nuremberg University of Music. The composer will work in Bamberg from mid-April to mid-September 2025.
